Element-ary History: Mercury

By: Ian Korapatti

Mercury was found in Egyptian tombs dating all the way back to 1500 B.C. We do not know who found it, but mercury was known by the Chinese, Egyptians and the Hindus.  Mercury is a highly toxic element and will kill any human who consume it and who inhale it. We can test this by using a thermometer, the mercury will rise when it calculates higher temperature.

These are some items that use mercury in them.

Mercury is mainly a compound, mercury is also liquid at standard temperature. Some common compounds of chloride, mercury oxide etc. Mercury is located in the 6th period and group 12. It is in group 12 period 6 because it is used in various alloys.

Here is my drawing of mercury.

Here is a picture of liquid Mercury.
